N2 BROADBAND AND GOTUIT MEDIA PARTNER TO BRING ENHANCED SEARCHING OF ON-DEMAND CONTENT TO CABLE
Integrated Solution Allows Consumers to View On-Demand Content Based on Their Preferences
Anaheim, CA, The Western Show (December 3, 2003) – N2 Broadband® and Gotuit Media Corp., today announced a partnership to integrate N2 Broadband’s OpenStream™ VOD (video on demand) platform with Gotuit TV, Gotuit Media’s patented indexing technology for on-demand video content. The integrated solution is currently being trialed by a major MSO and will be commerci all y available in the first quarter of 2004.
“The ability to index on-demand content introduces a whole new way for consumers to watch TV, and we’re pleased to partner with N2 Broadband to bring this innovative new service to the cable industry,” said Mark Pascarella , president of Gotuit Media. “Enhanced metadata will drive new methods for navigating on-demand content, creating new ways for consumers to find what they want in the on-demand programming era. Our partnership with N2 Broadband allows us to streamline the integration process and immediately deploy into a huge embedded market.”
The integrated solution enables cable operators using N2 Broadband’s OpenStream platform to offer their subscribers the ability to view on-demand content based on their preferences. The Gotuit TV indexing technology combines segment metadata with on-demand video content, allowing consumers to quickly access the parts of a show in which they are the most interested, and interactively “surf” through stored content using a standard remote control. For example, when watching a time-shifted sporting event, consumers can segment the game into different views – game highlights, favorite player highlights, key plays – without having to watch the game in its entirety. In the case of time-shifted news, viewers can jump to only the stories they want to view, i.e., weather, top news stories, etc.
“Cable operators are looking for new, stickier services to help reduce churn and increase subscriber satisfaction with on-demand services,” said Reggie Bradford , president and CEO of N2 Broadband. “Our partnership with Gotuit Media is a win-win situation for the entire industry. Gotuit TV will open the doors for media companies to produce an array of new content for this new programming format, and our OpenStream platform allows operators to quickly and easily add new services like Gotuit TV without any changes to their VOD servers or back-office infrastructure.”
OpenStream uses published interfaces that tie together all the components that make up a complete on-demand system, allowing operators to choose from a variety of vendors for video servers and applications as “pre-integrated” solutions, supported by N2 Broadband.
The OpenStream platform is a highly scalable system that supports cable operators of all sizes – from small, growing cable systems to large systems with substantial ransaction volumes. OpenStream is deployed today with a real-time, two-way billing interface and comes with a feature-rich, customizable reporting tool so operators can more effectively manage, view and control their VOD network. OpenStream supports digital networks from both Motorola and Scientific-Atlanta.
